This design is the result of my thesis project for Visual Communication Design program at Rochester Institute of Technology. The project is called "HOT POT- Palatable Tour" and was based on an interactive website with high appealing visual assets and playful motion to guide people to explore. Its purpose is to bring the opportunity for people to learn about Chinese culture with different hot pots, so that we can have a greater diversity of different cultures and histories as one of the central principles of Visual Communication.

The website is divided into 4 main sections

Enjoy, using the cursor to interact with a hot pot by dragging ingredients on the page.

Explore, by scrolling their mouse to see the information design explained the relative basic knowledge.

Culture, where the user can see more culture-related knowledge that expands from the hot pot.

Customize, a section that teaches the user to make a really hot pot at their home and enjoy it.

By scrolling the mouse user can switch between different types of hot pots.

For better immersive experience, the mouse shows as a chopstick on this page. The users scroll the mouse wheel to browse the ingredient on the table.

In China, various distinctive hot pots have been formed according to different regions. I chose three types of hot pots with the most superficial features for people to explore. They are from Beijing, Sichuan, and Chaoshan.

Each element on the table represents a culture/feature of this religion when the cursor moves, the page will make a corresponding micro-animation response. when the user stops the cursor and hovers over each element, they will give a subtle animation to respond.
It will take you to the specified section if the user clicks on them, it will show more specific information to inform the audience.

The pages were created based on cursor interactions and the principles of UX design. However, they are only meant to be demonstrations of the website's operation, as this is a visual design project.

All illustrations are based on reference to real photos, the style is simple but has a high recapitulation.

identity
In addition to the page layouts, I developed the visual identity of the logo.
Palatable tour logo is made up of three elements: a symbol, typography, and a tagline. Each shape in the symbol can be integrated into the “HOTPOT” typography.
The shapes overlay each other, In the black and white version, the rectangle in the front would be white and the circle will have a white outline as well.
